Therapy Methods
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a type of therapy that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices. Individuals who suffer from high emotions, impulsivity, and self-destructive habits might benefit from DBT. DBT also focuses on developing a therapeutic relationship and validating their experiences. However, it’s important to note that many individuals have had negative experiences with therapy.
Therefore, they must find a culturally responsive therapist who understands their community’s unique experiences and needs. DBT can also benefit individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder or other mental health conditions involving difficulties in emotion regulation.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the connection between ideas, emotions, and behaviors. It is founded on the notion that unpleasant thoughts and feelings may lead to poor conduct and that individuals can alter their behavior by changing them.
CBT is an effective therapy for BIPOC individuals. It can help them identify and challenge negative thoughts and beliefs related to their experiences of discrimination or oppression. It can also help them develop coping strategies for stress and trauma.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is a cutting-edge approach to therapy that is gaining popularity, and for a good reason: it effectively treats Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). People who have experienced traumatic events such as sexual assault, physical assault, witnessing the passing of an individual, house fires, car accidents, or even being cheated on could benefit from EMDR therapy.
Our therapists will have you engage in a sequence of eye movements and/or other forms of bilateral stimulation, which may take 60 minutes per session. Our therapists will support you in reprocessing experiences that evolved from a negative self-belief to an adaptive and more positive self-belief. Other forms of BLS (bilateral stimulation), such as pulsators or musical tones, can be used in the event of sensitivity to lights.
